What is a Seamless Pipe?
Seamless pipes are derived from solid steel that is in sheet or bar form and is formed into a solid round shape known as “billets” which are then heated and cast over a form such as a piercing rod to create a hollow tube or shell. Alloy 400 is a nickel copper alloy (about 67% ni-23% Cu), which is resistant to seawater and steam, salt and corrosive solutions at high temperatures. Alloy 400 is a solid solution alloy that can only be hardened by cold work. The nickel alloy has good corrosion resistance, good weldability and high strength. The low corrosion rate in fast flowing salt water or seawater, the excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking in most fresh water and its resistance to various corrosion conditions lead to its wide use in marine applications and other non oxidizing chloride solutions.
