Introduction

Overview and features

Duplex stainless steel alloy S32205 (S31803) consists of 22% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum and 4.5% nickel nitrogen alloy. It has high strength, good impact toughness and good overall and local stress corrosion resistance. The yield strength of S32205 (S31803) duplex stainless steel is more than twice that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel, so that designers can reduce the weight when designing products. In this regard, this alloy is more competitive than 316 and 317L S32205 is especially suitable for use in the temperature range of - 50 ° f / + 600 ° F. beyond this temperature range, this alloy can also be considered, but there are some limitations, especially when applied to welded structures

Application​ of UNS S31803

1) Pressure vessel, high-pressure storage tank, high-pressure pipeline and heat exchanger (chemical industry);

2) Oil and gas pipelines, heat exchanger accessories;

3) Sewage treatment system;

4) Pulp and paper industry graders, bleaching equipment, storage and processing systems;

5) Rotating shaft, press roller, blade, impeller, etc. in high-strength and corrosion-resistant environment;

6) Containers of ships or trucks;

7) Food processing equipment;

The alloy has the ability to resist chloride environment and sulfide stress corrosion, and its strength is about twice that of standard austenitic stainless steel. When higher mechanical strength / lighter weight is required, the alloy can be successfully used as a substitute for 300 series austenitic stainless steel. It is easy to use many standard arc welding equipment for welding, but it is not recommended for oxyethylene block welding, because carburization of welding metal may occur.
